    Default Heronscape

There was some mist on this pond shortly after sunrise and I really liked the mood.

    Axel:

Nice mood indeed. Colors are cool and soothing. Still water and mist work well.

From a comp standpoint, I like it as is, might consider cropping up from below to move bird more into the RLC.

That would be the traditional spot for a small in the frame subject. But, you lose a little of the feel of the bird out in the middle of the pond,
Will be curious what others think on this point.

Axel, this is a beautiful image. I actually wish there was just a bit more space at the bottom for the reflection, but that's minor, and I think is really successful.

I like the mood too, and I wouldnt change a thing. I really like the softer colours, and good to see a hint of the reflection. Well spotted and captured.

Axel, I like this picture. This is a picture of feeling to me, a contemplative scene. I tried may different changes to your picture - unable to improve it. Printed as correspondence material - it would be a top choice for serious correspondence - a little to open for a "wall hanger."

Axel, I really like the mood to this photo. I am with Greg though for more room at bottom. Another option that I like is to crop away about half of the reflection.

I'll suggest yet another alternative composition, that is removing the top, dark band at the top and placing the bird urc. This is moody and still and I find it very appealing.

    Grace:

I like that cropping suggestion. With such good material to work with, there are several good options, including the original!

Thank you for the suggestions, it's much appreciated! The image as presented is about 3000 pixel wide and I have a bit more room top and bottom.

As with Grace, when I pulled my slider down, cutting off the top dark tree
line from this composition on my comuter screen...I liked it better. The colors are very dramatic, even without showing the mist. It then gave a "Heavenly" appearance, like the bird was walking in clouds! Very nice.

I would suggest the mid-reflection crop also.
    Very nice mood on this.

I'm with Grace, I think dropping the dark band would solidify the "scape" in the pond...

I like the colors of the bird and surrounding and the dark band pulls the eye in my opinion.

I agree with the latter suggestions.
The thirds idea you have is fine, however the dark band draws the eye too strongly towards the top. So removing some of the dark band is an option. Removing the entire band--you lose your thirds idea. I'm a reflection guy, so I really enjoy seeing all of the reflection.

Hi Axel I think the feel that has been captured is great.
On the comp I am with loosing the dark band above and adding a bit of canvas below to move the bird up from the centre. This will also add a bit more space below the reflection and add to that feeling of isolation.

Ditto Grace. Lots of crop options here to enhance this lovely shot Axel. Whilst I accept crop choice is personal and our view of how we perceive, i felt before scrolling down that the top band removal and move to the trhc felt most comfortable. TFS. Beautiful mood.
