    Good EXP. Yes to much to much room above the bird. The head is turned away a bit too much. Best for preening images is perfectly square to the imaging sensor.... The head, and esp. the bill, are lost in the dark feathers.

    I like the calm water and eye contact. Adding to the other suggestions, I would remove the greenish area in the upper right. Keep them coming!

    Many times preening birds are more tolerant of people and may allow you to slowly change your position relative to it, such as moving a few steps to the right to get a better head position on your subject (especially if you notice that the HA is a repeat pattern on its part). Still, good behaviour captured :-)
