    Default Portrait of a pigeon

    Attached Images Attached Images

    D700 70-300 @ 280 hand-held. Manual exposure mode. ISO 200 f5.6 1/640s.

Some say the full-frame Nikon gives the 70-300 VR a new life. I have a feeling it may be so.

Cropped from horizontal. Original is under-exposed a bit.

    C&C welcome and appreciated !!

    Thank you !!!

    Hi Desmond,
I like this as presented...you have sharp details with good color rendition, a good head angle with razor sharp eye. Keep them coming...

I like it Desmond! Pigeons are quite colorful birds and you caught that well, like the eye contact as well

I like the portrait look and colorful subject. I am in the process of photographing Pigeons sleeping under an overpass for my LIL series, great subjects and you have captured their beauty.

One bird most people overlook but its beautiful and when properly done as here makes for a fine image !!!! Sweet !!!

.... just undecided on the lighter feathers at the bottom and was going to suggest cropping but then the neck does not look as elegant !!! As is for me !!!!

Sure many do. Pigeons are easy to find and are better than gulls for BIF practice, too, IMO. Besides, they don't all have the same color pattern.

    Exactly my thought!

    Thank you everyone !!

Nicely done, Desmond! I love the sharpness of the eye and head, the eye and BG color, and the iridescent colors on its neck/breast. This is a very nice portrait of a common and much maligned bird. I like your idea to train for shooting BIF on these birds. I'll have to try it. Thanks for sharing your image.

HI Desmond.....very nicely done...sharp eye and great Ha. The background is just beautiful! Can you do anything about the lower right hand corner looking light and washed out? I agree with not cropping!
