I have no idea what kind of bird this is, but it was so cute with it's hair all up and electrified. Photographed with my Canon 50D. ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/1000 sec, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, 400mm (640mm), Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Manual WB, No Flash. Comments Welcome.

Great color and detail in the beak and the eye. there is loss of detail in the feathers some of which appears to be because too hot. there are areas in the crown that are soft, which is puzzling. It is a cattle egret. Beautiful image

    Hi Mr. Waas,
I like the close up capture...you have a good head angle and sharp eye...there is something funky going on in the top feathers, they display as being dabbed with lack of details...your whites in several portions of the subject are running on the hot side, suggest on toning them down a tad...looking forward to your next one...

Great bird. Agree with others comments. I think the BG could use another round of sharpening.

I agree with the comments except for the background sharpening. I wanted the BG to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Agree with comments would go back to the raw and process again

Crop wise I always have trouble with centering the eye btw its a cattle egret in full breeding plumage Its the bird you commonly see hanging around bus stops around town !!!!

Love the colours and funky style. I am wondering if you ran NR over the whole image? Agree with you re bg - also wouldn't sharpen it.

    Richard,

Maybe a repost is needed here, something weird about sharpening and potential hot spots.

Richard, it's a Cattle Egret in breeding plumage. Did you do some cloning under the crest? Whites look very pasty there.

I didn't do anything to the bird. I discussed this with Gus, have no idea what happened. The only work was done to the background. I'll try another image I took.

Must have been sleeping this morning, I meant another round of NR in the BG, not sharpening. Daaa....

Hi Richard, really like the capture. It is puzzling though as to what happened to the detail in the feathers. I just love the pose and the wild hairdo!
