Default White faced ibis at Market Lake NWR Idaho

I stopped here last July on my way home to Spokane from Pocatello ID. We don’t see these around here.
I think I have good light, and exposure and sharpness. I was not aware of head angle when I took this other than to get the eye. I might like a cleaner water bckgrnd. Like to hear your comments.

Some have noticed magenta cast in my images which I cannot varify. This camera did not have the 50D firmware update, but I do have a camera calibration in ACR to A McBeth chart.

    50d, 500f4+1.4x at f5.6 1/400ses ISO200. This was from a beanbag on my truck window. About a 50% crop.

Love the details and the colors in the glossy plumage. The bird is walking away from you. Parallel or slightly towards you is almost always better and would be so here. Though you can see the eye, the head too is angled away from you. Severely angled away. Do take a look at the Head Angle Police thread in Educational Resources. With this body position yuu try squeaking in an effort to have the bird turn its head back towards you.

I like the iridescence and raised foot. Adding to Artie's suggestions I would try to get more details in the shadows.

Thanks all for your comments. I looked through my images, I have around 100, and several more with the first bird, but no good head angles. I choose it for the irridescent colors.

This one probably has a better head angle, but lacks the color.

Artie, I was not able to find the "head angle police" you mentioned in educational resources. Lots of great stuff there however, I am going to do at least one a day. I just did the stretch canvas, it was great.

Hi Ben, I gotta say that I much prefer the repost with the bird square to the back of the camera. You can find the Head Angle Police thread here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php?t=7781 near the bottom of the page in ER.

Thanks Artie, I was not able to find it before, the link helped and I have now read it.

I have been doing birds since 2004, and posting on other forums. But after a few weeks here, I see that I am just at the beginning. I believe I should move to the ready to learn forum for a while. This has been a great learning experience.
