What has more pixels on the subject? Or is it a wash?

1DMK3 with 500 f4 and 2 X TC or a 5DMK2 with 500 f4 and 1.4 TC cropped to give subject size the same as the 1DMK3 combo as stated? 21 MP gives a lot of cropping power. Is it enough to make up for the difference between using the 1.4X TC vs the 2X TC.

Ed, you can calculate this way 21/1.3^2*(1.4/2)^2=6 so if you crop the get the same FOV of 1DMKIII with 2X TC you end up with 6 Mpixels, the 2X TC gives you more reach but not necessarily better overall IQ.

Thanks Arash. Right now I am leaning toward the best image quality and giving up a tad of reach. Who knows what I'll think tomorrow.
