Photographed in a light fog last week on Bonaventure Island.
Flash did not fire on this one (part of a burst) so added some "fill" to the
landing bird in postprocessing to lighten up the breast a bit.

Looking forward to your comments and critiques!

Nice image! I like the landing pose you captured. I also like that at least three of the gannets seem to be watching the landing. Exposure and sharpness appears good to me. The composition doesn't quite seem right to me. I played with several crops and but did not come up with anything that presented any better so I would probably leave it as it is. If I was going to suggest anything it might be to add little to the top and a bit off our right? Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Mike,
I love the low angle of capture on this - looks as if he is conducting the heavenly choirs!!!
    Best,

I like Niki's analogy. The composition is interesting and inviting to look at.

    Mike,

Been enjoying your gannet images. This one's very interesting. Looks like one of them is saying "This is MY spot!" I'd like to see a bit more room at the top.

I like the overall feel to the image. I only find the incoming gannet too close to the top. Instead of adding canvas you can opt to lower the bird if you don't mind that type of manipulation...an easy 20 second clone/patch job with such an evenly coloured sky. I love the OOF layer of farther gannets. A tough one to crop properly at bottom though (hard to avoid clipped bills and/or other parts!)

I've been enjoying the series Mike- well done! I have tried and usually failed to get this image- a bird landing with a line of grounded ones below- your timing was perfect! Like the lighting and agree with the Daniel, the OOF gannets add a lot. I'm fine with the original post but it's fun to see what can be done with Ps.

Mike, Lovely capture. Almost feel like I'm actually there. All your techs are spot on and agree with Dan on more room up top. Congrats

This is very appealing Mike. Good feel to this. Like Daniel's repost but not in preference to yours, just as an option. There is room for a vertical too, in your version, although the lower wing in the group might interfere: :). Nice shot!
