    Default Preening Willet

Photographed at Sandy Hook two days ago. I liked the pattern of the plumage and the soft morning light.

Nice light, and low angle. Nice BG too. But the focus seems to be on the back-feathers rather than the head, and the plumage looks a bit to reddish for a Willet. Maybe de-sat the red channel a bit?

Thanks, Aidan! I already desaturated the bird ten points, the color is due to morning light.

You get around for a guy from PA. Nice juvie and nice light. I like the HA and the bill in the scapulars. A bit of selective sharpening of the head might be in order as Aidan's comments suggest.

Axel, I like the preening pose and the feathers do create a lovely pattern. The BG and lighting are terrific. I might sharpen the head and neck a bit. Well done.

Love the angle and pose here Axel. Getting some of the longer billed shorebirds preening always makes for a fun image too me.

What a fantastic light and pose Axel. Great shooting angle amd behavior. I might try to tone down the lower part of the BG just a bit to make the bird pop more.
