I was standing inside my kitchen, on a recent morning, around 10am, looking out the opened window (no glass). It was an unusually cool morning for an August day in Florida. This female Red-winged blackbird, momentarily landed on one of my Hummingbird Plants at a close distance, giving me a nice pose. She was there about thirty seconds, long enough to grab the camera, which was on my countertop and fire two frames.:) Normally, I am not too thrilled about seeing these birds in my yard, because they come in flocks with the Grackles and Cowbirds and devour all the birdseed. But, there were only a couple on this morning and I was entertained by her feeding a begging fledgling
Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi, 100-400mm lens at 400mm. f/8, ISO 400, no flash or exp. comp., matrix, aperture priority, hand held. Minimal cropping and cloning of a lower distracting leaf.
Nice capture Glenda. The only minor nit I have is the green plant branch behind it's head. To me, the subject blends into the background too much. However the bird always selects the location and we have to work with what they give us. Great detail and sharp.
I like the comp, with the leafy perch. Super pose, good detail, and for a quick fire shot, you have done well. Im in two minds regarding the leaves behind the head. They dont distract, but somehow we know that in a perfect world they shouldnt be there.
I like the head turn, BG and eye contact. I like Peter's idea of lightening it and if it something you do, you could clone out the leaves behind the head.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I've not done much with selective colors, yet, but should be able to handle the cloning of the leaves behind the head. I will give that a try.
I too would suggest cloneing of the leaves behind the head, peters repost sure add to this image, loved the head turn, BG, perch and details.. congrats..
