Last year I was in Quechee Vermont and had the opportunity to go to a Place called Vin's. It is a rehabilitation center. The show had this Owl and an American Kestrel. The story behind the Owl was that he was hit by a car while chasing prey. The car owner was nice enough that he coved the bird and brought it to Vin's. They took care of it, brought it back to life, but in the mean time it suffered a loss of sight and his brains were not functioning normally. The young girl who had it is his caretaker and the thing that impressed me is with all its problems the love it had for her was amazing, and her love for the Owl.

Iso 400 flash 1/100 sec at F 5.6. I wish I had taken it with more dof but at the time I wanted the eyes to pop? Canon 20D and 100-400L

Thanks for sharing the image and story. I went to VINS a while ago and agree that the caretakers are very dedicated and also do some educational programs.

The whites on the chest look a bit overexposed. If the original is RAW you might be able to recover the highlights.

A wonderful story.....and such an animated image. I love that tilt of the head and puzzled look you are getting. You even got a decent BG which can be hard in rehab centers. I agree with Axel on the whites. Also the owls left eye shows a little "red eye" from the flash. I'd fix that. Well done.

Nice story, the red eye should be removed, the blotchy background indicates a sizable crop?

This would make a very nice card to send to friends who might be sick and need a laugh. Nits mentioned.

I think you should fix the red eye. Very nice head position.

    Hi Philip,

The tilted head and expression really make this image stand out. I like the bg too. The whites look ok to me. I would fix the red eye and remove the all the highlights in the other eye except for the main one.

This is one that makes me laugh and then a little sad too when I read about it.

Still it is one of those images that is wonderful in spite of technical flaws (hot whites on the chest). I definitely would fix the red eye.
