Waited patiently for the egret to fly away or do something interesting. I had to settle for this portrait. Comments? Keeper? cropping?

Hi Bob - exposure and details look good, Good HA and a nice sharp eye.

Tall bird = Vertical composition - often works the best as you have here. Might crop some from the top and wish for a little more room at the bottom - feels that tad bit tight down there.

Good show - keep them coming :)

Like the pose and BG. Very nice vertical framing. Agree about more room at bottom, but I like it a lot.

    Hi Bob,
Nice capture with a good head angle and sharp eye contact...agree with Mr. Peters on the cropping from the top and giving more room for the feet...looking forward to your next one...

Handsome shot, Bob. Has a bit of the feel of an Audubon print. Agree with just a tad more at the feet, but love the placement otherwise.

Sometimes just a plain portrait is nice, Bob! :) Love the pose and comp. The image looks just a trifle bit dark to me, not sure if that's just me or not. Well done.

    Bob,

Nice picture, I assume Eval metering, and EV=0? I like the f/8, the BG grass is nice. Was there enough light to increase ISO and boost shutter a tad. Need room for feet and agree with Chris. Sometimes a simple portrait is nice, and this is nice. Great moment in the life of nature.

Thanks jeff, ........I metered off green grass +0 , As I remember the light was overcast and fading. Because this egret was standing still 1/400 was thought to be enough but you are right it probably would have been better to raise the shutter to catch him if he took off suddenly
Chris ...I lightened the image just a bit with levels....
    Thanks for the input

To me this is definitely a keeper Bob. I'd "settle" for one of these. Your exposure and composition look excellent. The lighting is perfect for the whites. Nice work!!
