    Default High altitude bats

One of my favorite subjects is the moon. While "shooting the moon" one evening I kept seeing little dots flying by. I guessed a focus point and waited. Didn't take too long to catch one. It's hard to guess how high these guys where but they where WAY up there.

After doing a little googling, I found that bats in our area can feed on moths as high as 10,000 ft. ARTICLE

I had no idea either. Another point to ponder.. Consider the ratio of moon to total sky area. Multiply that sky part by the dozen or so bats I saw fly in front of just the moon.. That's a LOT of bats!

Really nice image Arlon. The scale and contrast of size is mind boggling! One of the most interesting images I've seen in quite a while. Thanks so much for sharing!

Very cool photo, thanks for sharing.

This is also a very cool way to do some bird watching. If there is a good movement (migration) at night you can often hear the short call notes of a lot of birds and if you set a scope up on the moon than you can see silhouettes of birds as they fly by. Identification is nearly impossible but it is cool to see how many birds are moving in such a fraction of the sky.
