    Default Red-Breasted Merganser

I photographed this image at the local marina last week.
The image has its problems, but the light was so amazing I decided to take a stab at processing it. The whites are blown a little--and I have left the highlights in the eye, as it looks a bit unnatural if you take them all away. Any suggestions on this one would be welcome!

Well done. This image is razor sharp and the colors look great.

Bonnie this is a beautiful image of a species I have nothing good on. I'd love to have this in my collection.

A lovely image Bonnie of this attractive Merganser - I love the array of tones in this image - a slight turn of the head would have been the icing on the cake!!!

John is learning. This one needs a big time head turn... (See the Head Angle Police thread ni ETL). With a good head angle the bill shine would be gone...

Lovely bird and lovely image, but...

    later and love, artie

    Hi
    What a great bird !
I absolutely agree with Artie, for me it's also not razor sharp, I find it rather soft...especially the head...Can't see any detail. Did you reduce the noise ?

Hi Jan, yes--I did use one round of NR, and perhaps I should just use it on the bg.
This was also part of the very first images from the MKIII after it came back from Canon. I have since calibrated the 300/2.8 + 2X combo with the MKIII and I think the results I am getting now are much sharper.
I'll keep trying on this guy! I guess it is my nemisis bird! ;)

Wonderful image. I agree with the comments above, but it is still a nice capture in my book. Let's hope the fix from Canon works well for you Bonnie!
