Hi Stuart - whites look good -Sweet light - would try and lighten the face/eye area just a tad.
It may just be me but looks like it could use some CCW rotation - pose is good - although it looks like you may have had a shot at the classic love pose with the necks of the swans forming a heart shape. Hope you got that one as well!
Good show :)
Hi Stuart,
This is one sweet capture, agree with the techs. only wished that the swan on the left would have turned his head more to his left...looking forward to your next one...
Wow, you are on the right track, great shot. Light is fantastic, you learn fast. Only suggestion is try and keep aperture open to keep shutter high, when HHing it will help and keep DoF shallow for pictures like this - well done. Whites have texture. How did you meter?
Thanks everyone for the help. Agree with maybe more space around the birds. Did add some but maybe not enough.
As for metering. I saw these two approaching one another and took a few shots tweaking the exposure to keep the whites as near to blowing as poss but just under.
How would you go about metering for a scene like this. The sun just rising and the light brightening every minute. If say, you knew you only had one chance at the capture. Say an Egret in flight?
I am a Canon guy so let's try and translate. Let's get some facts first, I assume you are using Evaluative/Pattern metering in AP mode, is that correct and do you have a copy of The Art Of Bird Photography, by Artie Morris?
Thanks Jeff,
Yes, I used matrix (evaluative) metering but in manual. Just find it quicker to change the exposure set-up going full manual and have learnt from here that my settings wont change if the bird flys over bright or dark backgrounds. But no, I don't have the book by Artie, just his digital basics info. Is the book the way to go?
