I visited my good friend Gerrie, in the Pilanesberg nature reserve, this past weekend, and decided to practise my take off shots. We cant always guarantee the perfect posture, and each capture is different from the next. The BG is an OOF mountain.

ag eish mate! this is as good as they get! many will crit the wing shadow almost covering the eye but to me it's a great pose, blacks & whites handled expertly and super sharp. top stuff!! making me jealous - I'm long overdue for my first visit to Mankwe (will probably wait until I have my new camera - once the 60D/7D/whatever they call it comes out)

    Stuart,

I think you did a great job with EXP and sharpness. Wish for some separation between bird and perch.

Vivek, apologies - should have stated the species of kingfisher for the non Africans. This is a male Pied Kingfisher.

    Stuart,
I love this image. Like the composition and the action. We do have these Pied kingfishers in India.

    Cheers,

Excelent exposure and sharpness, a great action shot.
Very good BG and Comp, the perch fits well in the image.
It seems like there's a blueish / purple cast.

Nearly perfect timing. Another millisecond and you'd have the separation between bird and perch. Still a fantastic capture.

Awesome timing brother! Love the pose. OK with wings and shadow. No worries there. I wish the body was clear of the perch. But that is just a wish. I am sure it's as good as was possible. Thanks for sharing Stu. Ripper! :)
