Sometimes one does not need to search far for photo opportunities. I took this picture in my parent's garden in Kwa-Zulu Natal while visiting them over a weekend. With regards to the identification, I am not entirely sure as it is quite difficult knowing the female weavers from each other. However I think this is the spotted-backed weaver (also known as the village weaver).

Nice HA, exposure, and details. The light is a bit harsh, and the BG is not ideal. Did you set this up? If so I would suggest that you choose a thinner perch next time.

Aidan, thanks for taking the time to look and for your comments. Yes, I did do a quick set up, and I haven't really put much thought into the selection of the perch. However there were a couple of larger birds around (barbets), for which a thinner perch might not have been ideal. The shot was taken within the last two hours of sunlight, so I thought the light was not too bad. I would really appreciate it if you could give more detail on what is bothering in the background. I suppose that it must be the lighter shades? The background is made up of shrubs, which is a bit thin in foilage during winter. Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi Elmar, The background doesn't bother me. I find it pleasing. The light does seem a bit bright/harsh to me as well. It might be worth toning down the perch a bit and the bird just a little. The bird is nice and sharp and you handle the light well. Good show and thanks for sharing.

Beautiful subject Elmar the colors and details captured look great I think this could go a touch darker considering the light. Well Done!

Nice shot Elmar, BG is just fine IMO, detail and sharpness is pretty good too, colors are vibrant and HA is nice. I don't think the light was harsh but image is somewhat contrasty on my screen I might try to tone it down using curves a little bit.
