Default Assignment: Same Flower Different Bug

    Attached Images Attached Images

I wanted to post this to show how sharp an image can be a 1/60s. Probably not good practice but the focal length and the SS are just guidelines???
    500mm
    1.4TC
    25mm extension tube.
    Tripod
    f7.1
    400 ISO
    Evaluative AV -.3
Cropped for comp and brought out the colours on the flower more with selective colour rather than saturation.
Anyways I thought the bee was pretty sharp.
Three rounds of sharpening from beginning to end.
    Comments/Suggestions Appreciated.

Hi Jackie, Good flower specimen with a backround that makes the image pop. The inclusion of the bee adds alot of interest to the image. If you went a bit higher on the fstop more of the image would be in focus. Otherwise nicely handled!

Jackie, I think you did a great job with this and agree you could have stopped down a bit more. Roman had me shoot flowers in an f/29 and I gotta tell you it makes a difference. That and the use of fill flash. I never thought I would convert but I'm becoming a believer. Nicely framed and the color rendition looks good.

Fill Flash with the twin lite D??? If I stopped down anymore my SS would have been really low. IMO the bee's eye's need to be sharp which they are. Isn't it nice sometimes to have parts of the image soft?? Maybe it's a matter of personal taste.

Hi Jackie Fully agree with your settings and it is remarkably sharp for he speed A good test for your longs lens technique !!!! Sweet !!!

If you want to stop down more can be done by increasing the ISO I have been doing most of my macro at ISO 1600. I find the image really good as presented !!! btw for high ISO remember the overall tone of the image will determine noise, in the one you posted you got lots of darks do might be a problem, on lighter images you can get away with more.

Love what your doing with the long lens and don't be afraid to stack extension tubes !!!

    Hi Jackie,
Lurking here.....it's interesting......I normally shoot like Mike Moats at F32 or 29.....but considering the 500.....you may be able to open up. Do you use Breezebrowser to convert your images.....if so.....where was the focus point? The dof Fallof is very quick at high magnifications....so stopping down and using the flash for some added SS....just as fill.....may have helped freeze any motion.....because sharpness could have also been lost due to wind shake at 1/60th of a sec.

Will have to know how to use Topaz DeNoise a little better before I go higher with the ISO Al. Have another 25mm extension tube on order. Thanks for the comment(s).

Thanks Roman, I use ACR to convert. I have just fallen in love with the 500, the sharpness, colours, bokeh, and love it as a macro. I have ordered an F1 bracket and maybe will start experimenting with that, might be overkill as flash. Thanks for the input.

Sweet Image Jackie - all googd advice above, I find it is a little soft for my personal tastes.
Just personal taste though - Like it a lot ;)

Hey Jackie, I'm not saying your image isn't sharp enough. I was just trying to help. Sorry, didn't mean to sound critical.:)

Hi jacky....I love this image as presented...plenty sharp where it needs to be. I also like the mood that you have been creating with your flowers....i don't know if you would lose that with flash! Really Really like this!

Hi jacky...Another thought might be to crop some off the bottom not clipping the edges but cutting the petals..Just a thought!
