I visited my local Green Herons this morning and this one gave me a nice head angle and catchlights in both the bird and the fish. :)

Axel...beautiful capture. Liked the placement of both, the depth-of-field and the head turn. For some reason the light on the heron's body (not head and beak) seems a bit unnatural..like a flash.

    I love these birds.

Very well done, love the smooth BG. Feel sorry for the fish, wonder what the next frames look like in this series :D

Thanks, Kaustubh! No flash, just subdued sunlight.

Sweet exposure, BG, and HA (on both) Having never been able to get within 100 yards of a Green Heron I envy you.

    The pupil is really odd-shaped.

Well done! Lighting had to be optimal, and you took advantage of it. Great composition, detail, BG, and timing. You also were able to catch the fish without a motion blur(they tend to be agitated for some reason), which I have had problems with numerous times, and even 1/400sec, though a perfect speed for capturing the heron, is often too slow for the wiggling prey! Excellent job! regards~Bill

Very nice, in MN these guys are really spooky, nice shot. I think the body could be
just a tad darker.. IMO. :D

Great close up of both of them, and both nice and sharp. I hope you got one of the fish going down the hatch.

Thanks, Stuart! A few moments later a car drove by and the bird took off.

Excellent portrait! I like the prey item, HA, feathers, and colours. Although I like the BG as is, I would also be interested to see it just a wee bit desaturated because it looks quite electric. Otherwise perfect in my book!

Great head angle and the fish makes the image. The bird could go a little brighter IMO.
