Default Assignment: Macro - "Midnight Snack"

    “Midnight Snack”

    Note:
The saturation and contrast levels were boosted just a little to make Mr. Spider pop out from his web. A suspension mixture of glycerin and water was sprayed to highlight and outline the web’s formation and the subject. The fog was added in post processing.

This hungry fellow was painted with a Nikon D300, using a Nikkor 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR.

    Image Solution:
    focal length @ 300mm / exposure mode @ aperture priority / in camera matrix metering / 1/60sec. - f/11 / exposure comp @ +0.3EV / ISO @ 640 / white balance @ cloudy / AF - Mode @ manual / color space @ sRGB / lighting solution, a combination of a strip soft box and a micro light panel set to ¼ lumen output with a diffuser in front. / tone comp @ 0 degree / hue adjustment @ +1 degree / saturation factor @ +2 degrees / support platform - tripod assist, and remote electronic trigger release /

    Comments greatly appreciated...

I am borderline on the fog. I initially thought it may be fake and your description confirmed it. Anyway, the web is outstanding, I love the detail and I love the way it pops.

Gus, I like this image very much. What really makes it work for me is how the background is almost black and white, making the spider really stand out. I think it shows very nice conception and execution of the idea. The tech notes show the thought that went into its creation. Very nice!!
