Default Portrait of young Great-blue Heron.

Even though Great-blue Herons are normally super skittish here, every year around this time a particular local pond plays host to at least one juvenile heron that loves to pose for the cameras. Either they don't know better, or they are already used to people (lots of pedestrian traffic), or both. In any case, its always fun to get frame filling portraits at 260mm:). Only thing with these scraggly juvies is that I wish their bills were in better shape (but I guess that is just part of their youthful charm...)

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @260mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/160s., f/6.3, ISO 640, +2 EC, natural light, handheld, full-frame.

That's a good looking portrait Daniel. Love the wet feathers and the character of this guy. Perfect exposure and framing. Thanks for sharing. :)

Excellent portrait Daniel. The bedraggled look and superb details suit this. Very nice!

Amazingly sharp Dan, and Im sure looking as relaxed as he is, that you got quite a few shots in. The feather detail is simply amazing. He certainly stands out against the lighter BG. BTW, what is the BG?

Nice one Daniel, love that graduated BG. For some reason the area around the eye looks a tad less sharp than the rest of the bird? I have had this happen with titmice before. Maybe there is just less fine feather detail on the bird there?

Daniel, nicely composed, love the textures of the feathers. The bg is excellent for this bird.
