    Default Green Heron

I found this bird at a local pond this morning. They are usually skittish around here but this one was more concerned with things going on above him than with me. There were two kingfishers chasing a cooper's hawk and the heron seemed to be worried to end up as breakfast for the hawk. The kingfishers mobbed the hawk until he left and the heron then continued doing his thing without paying much attention to me. I only cropped a bit for composition.

Great to have it so open. Nice sharpness, light, pose and great background. The whites on its chest look a bit hot here but I am sure you watched out for that. Perch could perhaps also use some toning down in some spots.

    Congrats. JR

Agree on the whites being a bit bright and I would take out the small branch coming off the perch in the lower right corner.

Thanks, Morkel! I double-checked, the whites are in the 220 range, maybe it is due to different monitor brightness settings.

I wish I would have gotten some images of the kingfisher/hawk fight but there were too many trees in the way to get a clear view.

Great pose, light, BG and detail, lovely colors and comp. Perch is not my favorite but still works nicely.
    Congratulations!

Great pose Axel, shame you didn't get the other two birds. I like this lots. Does not look too bright in spots at all. I would sharpen a little more, looks like it could do with just a little tweak. BTW, congrats on 12k posts mate, you are a gun! ;)

I'm liking the comp, pose, BG, and perch...but I'm finding the image overall a little light? I know you are usually careful with this, but I think a midtones adjustment would make it better. Thanks for the story on the image too...it puts the situation into perspective and you can really see that the heron is being cautious about something :-)

I like the comp, and the stretched posture shows the alertness nicely. I dont find the whites hot at all, and this is sharp. Great OOF BG too. Congrats on 12k.

I like the stretched out neck and curious look on the bird Axel. I kind of like the perch too. Nice capture.
