I like the captured action Arash...you have sharp details and good color rendition...would like to see more room in the front of your bird, and perhaps a lower capture angle and tighter pano crop would have made it a much stronger presentation...I do like the water trail, and the raised wing position...:) Looking forward to your next one...

These guys are tough to capture with their speed, but you got a nice sharp one here. I like that you captured the feet just before touchdown. I agree with wanting to have more room on the left.

i think a crop off the top saves this one. i like that you included the water trail. cool feature! there is a distinct sharpening halo around the bird that is noticeable more in the darker areas of the bird. first noticed it under the feet, then the back of the neck.

you had some nice light and i like the image even though the bird was just passed you. nice job!!

    Hi Arash,

Nice capture with good exposure and nice detail. My first impression was that the top of the frame could be cropped out as it doesn't seem to add anything to the image.
Not sure if this was the full frame, but if not, you could perhaps put a bit more space in front of the Cormorant.

    All the best,

    Julian.

I photograph these birds all the time, challenging subjects. Is this a large crop, what was your distance to the subject. I use a 40D and a 400MM 5.6 prime and cannot get within 60 feet of these guys, well done.

Needs more room on left but nice job for such a hard subject. Were you in a boat, I am always on the shore.

Hi - Gus nailed it - IMHO.
Love the water ski-ing pose - more room up front with a pano crop.
    :)

    Thanks guys,
I cropped off the top and put more space on the left, how do you like it now?

Jeff, I was about 30ft away from this guy on land. I usually try to get close to where they fish and get them to ignore me, they can't resist food!

No blind, try to approach very slowly on your knees, if they are fishing they will ignore you, if not they might fly off. BTW, I miss the 40D IQ and crispness I made some amazingly sharp cormorant shots from as far 100 ft with plenty of detail checkout this one it was more than 60 ft away!

I like it as presented and find the feather detail refreshing Tough birds to expose and need good light !!!

Corp wise I like having more room behind to show the wake and the pano crop accentuates the speed Well done !!!

I never thought of cormorants as "tail-draggers." A perfectly timed image reveals the truth.

Hi Arash....Nice image agree with more room to the left. You could easily add more canvas to the front of this image
