First ever deer photo of mine. Ran into a male and a female this morning.

    D300 with 70-300 f4.5-5.6 VR @ 300mm hand-held. Manual exposure mode, all natural light. ISO 800 f8 1/250s.

This fellow was having its breakfast. No open area nearby.

    Cropped for composition.

C&C welcome and thank you for looking !

Is that $500 lens really that bad??

Desmond - Very nice! The whole composition seems very balanced to me, plus the upward angle of the head gives a wonderful dynamic feel to the image. Tongue is great.
So did you pick some blackberries afterwards? They look to be prime.
    Cheers

Gus, I was about 30 to 50 ft from them.

Gail, I did not pick any berries.

Harold, that 70-300 VR lens is one **** of a lens for the money.

    Thank you !

Love the image, maybe a tad tight for me, but great picture. Fine detail on antlers, nice nature shot.

Nice shooting angle, smart use of light gives the deer texture and the slight use of shadows add depth - nice composition.

Superb.....the diagonal of the body strengthens the composition and the richness of the textural detail makes this image outstanding. Also, the reds of the body pop out aginst the green bg. Lovely!
