    Default wintering Short-eared Owl

Wild bird but human perch, used to stake trees up

Short-eared owls are a rare to non-existent breeder here in NY State. In many winters however, open agricultural lands with abundant rodents serve as winter home for birds from further north in Canada. Right at sunset, this owl sits on one of those posts used to stake up trees. Canon 500mm F4 and 1.4xII on beanbag from car as blind, ISO 400, F8, no flash.

I remember these from last year. I've seen images of these guys at sunset before......and they just glow. Great head turn, well composed, simple.....and oh...did I say how much I like the glow? Beautiful.

    Hi Jeff,

Beautiful light for this image. Nice pose on the owl too. I wish his head was turned just a bit more so the entire left eye was visible. If it were mine, I'd crop a bit from the bottom.

Jeff, you already knwo how much I like your work. I can spot it anywhere. A minor nit or preference here. How about a touch lighter on the blacks for a more just after sunset or sunrise feel? Love the glow, but just a touch lighter maybe.
