Default Serenity at the local duck pond.

These Mallards were photographed the same morning as the silhouetted GBH I posted last week, just a magical morning that you can only witness when getting up really early (most photogs arrived long after this scene was possible to photograph). I waited for both ducks to not look away, and then they finally synchronized their head turns.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/7.1, ISO 500, no EC (but metered off the lighter area of the water), handheld.

What a great feel this has. Did you think about a pano crop. The color is magnificent.

Beautiful, Daniel. Dramatic and peaceful all at the same time.

Superb! The strength is in the simplicity of the image and the rising mist, so I would also crop to just above the mist.

    Daniel,

I get a warm fuzzy feeling from this photo. Awesome light on this lovely environmental portrait.

Sweet Sweet light Daniel - the reward for being up early.
If it were mine - I would crop from the top to remove the light area on the bank - think it makes it stronger without that area and gives it a bit of a Pano feel - just IMHO :)

Hi Dan, your early rising paid off in this - sweet light, and love the colours from the sunrise. Im fine with the comp, but going extreme and cropping off from the top right down to where the orange and brown intersect on the LHS could work. Just a thought.

Hi Dan, I agree with Lance on the pano crop, a stunning shot nevertheless.

Beautiful shot Dan! I really love the colours and mist.
It proves there are great shots to be had even during these relatively slow times in our area.

You were rewarded for your early morning work - lovely image as is, but I tend to agree with the cropping suggestion. Thanks for sharing.

Hey guys, thanks a bunch - and I agree with a pano crop too as it is a version I had already done before posting this :-) I liked this one because I liked the view of the bank and light on the grass. I've kept both versions of course!

This is wonderful. Very well done. Leave as is. Habitat adds a sense of "place". Nice one.

Great image. Atmosphere is well captured. I'd also go with the pano - partially to eliminate the very dark and almost featureless area in the ULC. Congrats, JR
