Another remarkable shot, without the horns it would look like an alien from one of the old B movies.
I can offer no criticism, just congratulations!

Amazing capture Charles, it looks like life wasn't meant to be easy in the bison world. The white-out setting and grey bow-wave are most effective.

Very effective use of white out. This makes me yearn for winter!

Man, I love shooting in snow.
How much snow does the boy from Horse Shoe get in the winter? ;) Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! :D

When Jackie and I were in Alaska last year we looked like rug rats with many many layers of protection!

BTW, another cracker of an image!
    Cheers, Jay

It looks Ice Age to me, like it came out of a Mandan legend. Outstanding!

Chas, fantastic shot in every way. I just saw a show last night on Yellowstone in the winter highlighting the bison's trek and could only think how awesome it would be to photograph them in that element. And then I see your photo here! You are living my dream! How did you get to them? Did you stay in a hunter's lodge?

    Connie,

It is truly awe inspiring! We access the interior wildlife and scenic wonders via our privately chartered 12 passanger Snow Coach and van in Lamar Valley. We stay within the park at Mammoth and Old Faithful lodges. The only way to access the interior of the park in winter is via snow coach, guided snow mobile, or cross country sking.

Click the STL link at the bottom for additional details.

    Best,

    Chas

Great image! Love the sense of cold and raw power this image conveys. This is the one I was talking to you about in the comments on the other one that you shared previously.

Stunning image Chas! Conveys a sense of how brutal winter can be and how tough bison are.

I was expecting that for such a fantastic image it would take a Galen Rowell - type 6-day trek across the frozen wastelands in sub-zero conditions through raging snow-storms! That such images might be captured from the warmth and comfort of 12-seater coach - by mere mortals - almost seems like cheating!

    But...

    Gerald,

No shooting at all is done from inside the snow coach. We are outside in the elements same as the wildlife. I got frostbite two years ago when on the same trip as this image was taken.

    Best,

    Chas

    Hi Chas,

To me this is truly an "heroic" image, so I am pleased that it really was taken in the frozen environment. Sorry that you suffered frost bite - hopefully had a full recovery. I'd be more than happy to risk frostbite for such an image and hope to join you there some time in the not too distant future!

    Best regards,

    Gerald
