    Default 2X Converter

Image made at Bosque del Apache Posting mainly to show you can use converters and make good images. This was made with a 2X which normally I don't try all that much for flight since AF slows down more than 50% but still workable withe care. Notice image was made wide open to maximize shutter speed, did not raise the ISO much since I was using the Mk2 and noise programs were not as effective. btw a couple of month ago I posted a snail kite in birds made with stacked converters ... a flight image.

With any lens converter combo I would go out and test before using in the field. Its nice to know what to expect.

Perfect example of what is possible when you use careful settings and the right equipment combined with good technique. Thanks for the show Al. :)

Al, just got my Canon 500mm f/4L and was wondering, would it be better using it on my 5D MK II with converter, either 1.4x or 2x or use it on my 50D which is a 1.6 crop factor. Also the 50D has a higher frame rate. Thoughts???

Thanks for posting this along with your comments and suggestions. This is one inspiring image especially if you think pintails are one of the most attractive duck.

Richard if you are doing birds go for the 50D, the other has a very slow AF !!!

Gail I got another pintail that really rocks with the 1.4X a few minutes before :)

Nicely composed and well exposed. Good work with the 2x. I have found the doubler works well enough on Nikon's 400 f/2.8 and 500vr f/4. The 500 does experience a sharp loss in autofocus.

i've seen a lot of great images come out of the mark2n, but this one might take the cake. cant believe that's at over 120mm.
