    Default Netbook problem

My wife and i just bought a Acer netbook and now realize it will not allow us to view our Nef files from our Nikon D-300. Can you offer any suggestions?
Also, How can I load programs like Breezebrowser or Photoshop elements- it has no disk drive.?
We are leaving for Africa in about 2 weeks and was hoping to use this netbook as a data storage and viewer. We had resigned ourselves to not being able to edit our files but really wanted to use its larger screen to view. can you offer any suggestions?

    Thanks :)

Hi Bob, you can buy a USB DVD/CD drive to load programs, alternatively if you have a home network you can share a drive on one computer and Map the drive on another computer, so you are using a drive on 1 computer as if it was connected to the other, thats how I install programs from CD's :)

I personally use Breeze Browser Pro to view raw files on my netbook, quite cheap and very useful and it also does not take up too much hard disk space :)

Bob I hope you recieved my Email.

I have not used Nikon (except my Nikonos Underwater systems) since my F2AS Photomic days and am certainly not au fait with their software systems.

As far as BreezeBrowser, it can be downloaded from their site (you might want to try the evaluation (Free) first but I love it.

I searched around and found these three sites that may help and don't forget that lovely Free program Infranview which seems to work with everything and is only 10 Mb.

    http://www.irfanview.com/

Have a look at these and see if they help.

No problems Bob, you could install "Open Office" which is a small free office utility which I use on my EEE Pc along with Breeze Browser and Infranview.

My EEE Pc is a solid state 12 Gig and I take it on my off road motorcycle and back pack and it is industructable, has great Wi Fi and I carry three Freagent 320 Gig portable USB drives for storage.

On it I have installed, BreezeBrowser Pro, Infranview, Open Office, Skype, Google Earth, Email and it flies and has never let me down and the battery life is fantastic.

All the best and I hope you have a great trip and bring back some fantastic images.

I must not understand the problem. I thought all Acer Netbooks had a harddrive. If you want to view Nikon NEF files download Nikon ViewNX for free. What am I missing?

    Alan,
I'm 99% sure he meant CD / DVD drive ("discs").

I, too, have a netbook and either download the installation files online or transfer them from CDs to USB thumb drives (via another computer). I saw no point in trying to install anything heavy-duty like Lightroom or Photoshop on mine (I use Breeze Browser instead), but Tell is right that sharing the CD drive on a home network would be the way to go.

Or you can buy a CD/DVD USB drive. You only need one to use on multiple computers now or in the future.

I just bought the Toshiba netbook and the external Toshiba USB 2.0 CD/DVD drive/burner. You need one to simply create the recovery disks. Thus far, very happy with the netbook: 1.66 processor and 160gb harddrive.
    Cheers, Jay
