    Default Griffon Vulture

    Hi There

Shot from my usual haunt of the Hawk Conservancy, but this time of something bigger than the falcons i usually concentrate on. This is a capture of a Griffon Vulture taking part in one of the flying demonstrations. I was trying for a sort of aerial portrait shot as he has such a large wingspan that to get it all in means he is too far away for much detail to be seen.

Again shot with my standard lens setup of the 500mm f4

John, This is an exciting visual composition and capture. Great plumage details. Just a bit dark for me. Without burning out the whites, I would try to lighten up the tail, body, and wings if possible.

What a terrific composition. I really like the lighting on this one......the head is bright as to spotlight it and then the light fades to the dark tail......rather dramatic. The details are very good....especially the eye and beak. Very well done.

    Hi John!

I am enjoying how dynamic this looks. My eyes are drawn to the brightest area, and that is the head ... and when I arrive there, I am enjoying the sharp details.

This is great. I love the composition and what a beautiful vulture. I wish our local species were that attractive.

Very dramatic John !!! I like the tight crop to emphasize the face Real sharp and complementing bg Would only remove the yellow area by the tail Tends to draw my attention !!!! Good looking bird and love the image !!!

    John,

I like the tight in your face comp. The head angle and eye contact are nice too. Perhaps a little shadow highlight tool in PS to lighten it up a little and bring out a bit more detail in the shadowed areas.

    Hi There

Thanks to everyone who has put forward their comments on this picture it is much appreciated. My "Photoshop" skills are fairly limited but I am aiming to improve so i post below "an attempt" at using shadow highlight to lighten under the wings without hopefully blowing the highlights.
    completely.

    As always comments welcome

    John
