    Default Male Lion

Took this in Nakuru NP, Kenya in the middle of a fairly foul thunderstorm. The females of the pride had just got up and slunk off on a hunt, and this fella popped up from nowhere to see if lunch was being served. D3 & 300 AF-S 2.8 VR. 1/200 f3.2 ISO 800. FF

David this guy is quite Handsome :) Also he has an Adorable feel along with toughness .. you have captured his expression very beautifully .. But I don't know why did you composed him so much on the right bcos he is now looking almost out of the frame .. for the story to justify you could have included some bush but more space on the right ..

One of the occasions when I was going through a "break the rules' thought. :).. Have him looking back into the frame, but the ladies had gone and were out and breaking the rules created the tension I wanted, more in keeping with the events going on..... i think....

I like that you've got him staring off out of the frame. Tells the story that his pride has gone off leaving him behind - and he even has the forelorn look to go with it. The acacia on the right nicely balances the image as well. Nicely composed and presented David.

he really has a sad look on his face - like a cat dragged to a bath! great exposure and expression captured Dave!

Really like this one, David. Wet lion, rain saturated colors, the OOF grass heads, and the comp. For me he's not staring too far out of the frame, and the acacia balances it nicely. Excellent!

I quite like the comp Dave as it is and agree with your thoughts on it.
There's nothing like a shower to really bring out some of that detail on this male.
I'm seeing a touch of a blue cast here, perhaps a warming up of the WB would benefit?
How are you enjoying the D3 for wildlife shooting? Looking forward to using mine in Botswana in 2 weeks.;)

    Cheers
    Marc

Nice looking lion David. I like the sharpness of the face/mane and its contrast with the softer body. His closeness to and looking out of the frame works okay for me due to the presence of the acacia bush. Raindrops on the grass and in the BG add a nice feel.

Sweet looking image David. Love the atmosphere.
You are so lucky to have seen the lion pride at Nakuru.

I like this as it is but wonder if it is a little too dark. The soaked Lion gives a strange effect in particular the mane. In my opinion there should be a lot more "breaking of the rules" . This rule was after all devised in 1797 for proportioning scenic paintings!

I like the look of hurt and wounded pride on the male's face, David, and the saturated colours on his body caused by the rain. However, I would have preferred more room on the right, and less of the bush on the left. :)

Hi Dave, I like the intense look from the lion, and you have captured incredible detail on him. I like the softer light, and like how Peter has changed the HA. Great image from your OP.

    David,
I like the acacia branches balancing the image. Would have preferred the lion looking a bit towards the left, however I like the present version. I never knew that the lion would obey Peters command and turn its head. :D

    Hi David,

I really like the tones in this image. They are typical of rain and a storm. The light has also given almost no shadows providing detail throughout the image.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Austin
