Sometimes when the big guys are not present at Giants Castle, the little guys can offer some superb opportunities. The soft light enhanced the feather detail on this Cape Rock-thrush, and the habitat is very characteristic. The high shutter speed was a pre-caution in case something flying were to arrive out of the blue:) Would have preferred it if the rock did not touch the belly.
Exposure is spot-on. Loved the feather details. Beautiful bokeh. More room on top is the only thing I wish there was. What an awesome bird. Big congrats.
Neat little bird here, nice colours on it! I agree with your self critique (rock touching belly) and I agree with the others about more room above. I like the sprinkling of mosses on the rock, and the BG is rather nice too. Personally I would have preferred if the bird faced the BG instead of facing the rock - tough to ask Mother Nature to perform on call though!!
You made the best of your opportunity. I don't mind the rock merging with the belly. that's tough. :) However, I do wish that the same light were on the bird as is on the BG (well, it looks like the bird is in the shade). Great work mate nevertheless!. :) I was going to start by saying what raptor is this, as that's what I would normally anticipate from you (OK, or a roller) :D
Great colors, and what performance at that iso. I think f8 might've been nice to get more of the bird and perch in focus. Still, the overall color scheme really works well here. Superb.
Wonderful colours, pose and plumage detail in this image Chris. You might want to consider a vertical crop, I think there is a bit too much rock on the left.
