    Default Dragonfly Closeup

Photographed this dragonfly yesterday. There must have been at least 60 or 70 dragonflies in the general area where I took this. Talk about lots of dragonflies! :D Unfortunately they only seem to come out in large numbers during the heat of the day, so I have to deal with less than stellar light. Oh well, can't have it all I guess :) Any C&C are welcome!

    Olympus SP-550 UZ
    f5.0 @ 1/200, ISO 50, -0.7 EV
Aperture priority mode, pattern metering, auto WB
Processed in PS CS2; cropped, curves adjustment, toned down highlights a bit, and did some minor cloning to remove a few spectral highlights

    Chris,

Nice detail, the feet would have made a bit stronger but overall cool picture. I have never seem this detail before in a Dragonfly, well done the head/eye area is fantastic and for me educational.

Hi Chris .... want them toes :)

You might give diffusers a try Get one large enough and might get Dflies landing !!!

NO TOES, OH NO...:D aside from this Chris, I like the tight crop, up close in your face composition...the color rendition is good...and your subject is sharp...good show...

What you can sometimes get away with in a case like the missing toes is to crop the picture so that it does not look like it was a mistake. Something like where the knee area is.

Well, I'm jealous. I can never get that close to a dragonfly, and I've tried.

Thanks everyone for the comments! Sorry about the clipped toes, here it is recropped with his whole toes :D. Hopefully this is better. Thanks Al, for the suggestion on a diffuser. I'll look into that.
