Just playing around with the wide angle for a change. A storm was rolling in and I captured some heat.

Jeff, Fantastic!! I like the placement of your bolt. Beautiful color and lighting! I spent an entire evening chasing a storm to capture something like this-I got zip. Well done!!

Nice one Jeff, the purple color fits the mood well. The problem with lighting is you don't know exactly when and where it will strike. As Alfred mentioned, lighting trigger would help with the when part.

I saw the lightning in the distance and decided to try and see what I could get with the 17-40.

Started placing the camera where the action was and got lucky.

Good show Jeff! These are hard to get. Love your composition and the way the clouds are lit up! This would be a great candidate for some "out of the box" treatments also!

Really nice Jeff. I've never done any lightning photography before, but I'm very interested in it.

nice capture, jeff!! i cant believe you caught it with only a 1/2 second exp. i have tried several times and missed everytime. need dark and longer exposures to do it without a trigger. OR you can just get lucky!!

Boy Jeff, it's amazing that you caught this bolt in 1/2 second. I know it's not easy to do.
I also love the purple color. Very nice capture!!

The shutter speed was driven by the HH method. Moreover, I knew I could not hold anything greater then .5 w/o big time blurring. So by setting the shutter at .5 I knew it would be too fast for most light, but not lightning. So I manually set the exposure and hit the second shot I timed. Yes, it was luck, but I was prepared.

The shot is full frame as well.
