    Default Just a Common Eider...

A Common Eider swimming in the afternoon sun at Flatey Island, Iceland...

Although the Common Eider is a very common bird here in Iceland, and often overlooked, I think it's beautiful, and has a very strong and funny personality...

I agree with you, eiders are beautiful birds and fun to watch. I like the very low angle, calm water, exposure control and sharpness. If anything, I might try to lighten the eye a bit more.

Were you in the water or on the shore or a jetty?

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Axel: I laid flat on the shore, and my beanbag was in the water, which was only about 4-5 cm deep. The lenshood was only a few centimeters above the water...

What a beautiful image! Love the colors, the low angle, the calm water, the EXP control, and of course, the subject :)

I really like this shot a lot and am a bit envious as eiders are quite rare around these parts.
Would almost like to see a bit more space to the right of the tail.

Stunning image. Every things looks perfect to me; low angle, exposure, sharpness, composition, background. I can't ask for anything more except that you don't use the word "JUST" for any bird however common they are :-).

Gorgeous low angle, nice pose, excellent subject, good colours and good exposure. I could go for a tighter crop some from the top and just a tiny bit of the left. Otherwise excellent IMO!

I love it. Simply stunning water and nice low angle. Eye could not be better. More lightening would kill the image for sure. If you watch those gentleman you hardly see their eyes.
I just would add more sharpness as the bird looks soft a bit. Awesome job.

How was it photographed? From kayak?
