Converted the image to B/W and blew out the backround. Lightened the image to give it a more sketch like look.

Very nice, Dave. Love the pencil sketch look. Just looks a little tight to me particularly on the top. I also might remove the border.
Dave, I like the high -key look to this and agree it looks a bit tight on top. I do like the border. Nice perch and HA . I might add a round of sharpening to the head. Nicely presented!!
For me, it's a little too light/bright. I feel like there are places that don't have enough detail (some of the perch and the front area of the bird) to keep my eye from skipping over them. I think if you did a little burning to add more black to the image it would really help anchor it better overall. I think you could take it a few steps further and really maximize its potential.
I'm with Julie on this one re details and brightness. I also agree with Denise re sharpness. Although many of you say usually images will appear over-sharpened on CRT monitors, on my old and functional CRT monitor, this image looks like it could use more sharpening, especially the eyes.
Hi Folks, appreciate the comments. Actually my intent on the image was to make it soft. If I made the image too contrasty it would have greatly affected the look that I wanted and made it more graphic rather than sketchy.
I like it as presented. That would look real nice printed on velvet paper and hanging on the wall.
looks like a pen drawing. I think it needs more detail on the breast of the bird; by boosting shadow levels or curve adjustment;
