Greetings: This male Mourning warbler was taken in June in the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

We had been driving around on forest service two tracks, checking habitat, when we heard the call..

    40D/500mm/1.4x/Gitzo 1325/Wimberley head:1/400 @6.3/ISO 500/flash off.

Its such a pleasure to see this great bird.

    Comments appreciated.

Yo Dick, looks great buddy. It was a short but good trip. You did better than I did on this one! Could maybe stand to see this one a little smaller in the frame.

    Good Shooting!

Great find, good angle, eye contact, and BG. I would tone down the highlights on the perch and legs and remove one of the catch lights. Another vote for a slightly wider crop. Keep them coming!

    Richard:

Axel hit the important points. It is an interesting perch, but too bright, distracts from the bird. I think another round of USM on the head might help, plus catchlight removal.

    Cheers

All good points above, and I will add that I find the background too punchy (quite the electric lime!) Easy to selectively tone down the yellow channel on it. I love the POV, and the curious-looking nature of the pose.

I am very glad that Daniel mentioned the background as I am still a bit unsure about the colors on my new laptop. On my machine, the background looks almost fluorescent yellow-green - like a highlighter. Other nits have been mentioned and I think the crop might be just a tad tight.

Any photo of this bird is a good one. They are extremely hard to get close to.
What I like here a lot is the in-your-face eye contact.

The highlights sure need to be reduced. loved the bird, the pose and BG. would also suggest some hapening on the face and beak.. congrats..

Thanks all for the insightful replies. I agree with most of them and will give it a go in PS to making some of the suggested changes.

    Appreciate the comments.
