I was lucky to find this Great-blue Heron actively feeding from this nicely backlit spot. It just remained firmly stationed in place but continuously struck left, right, and center for small minnows - allowing for many opportunities. It was then just a matter of choosing the images with the nicest looking splashes :-) A few imperfections and debris were patched out to give a "cleaner" look to the water.
Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/7.1, ISO 400, no EC (but metering off the bright water gave the desired silhouette effect), handheld. Slight crop for comp.
what a splash this is. i like the treatment and the way you captured it. perfect mirror made this more beautiful.
Personal wish : love to see a large view with more space arround.
Hey Daniel, Great stuff here! Perfect in every way. Flip it 90 deg counter clockwise and I think you have yourself an interesting alien bug looking thing!
Nice curves here Daniel, little more space would have been nice, but thats a very minor thing. Also, i see some halo effects around your copyright, did you sharpen after you added the copyright?
I really like silhouettes. This one is fabulous in so many ways. Namely composition, color and splash. Thanks for sharing...

One of the best bird silhouettes I've seen in a long time. Excellent work....! The drops add a very nice touch and turn this into a winner in my book. This is art!
