I like the mood and captured moment. Makes you wonder if this is play, bonding or figuring out what tastes good. :) Is the shadow due to a bigger elephant nearby? I wish the diagonal plant in front of the elephant on the left were not there.

    Axel,
I just had a look at the RAW file, I must admit I previously thought that this plant was in the smaller elephants mouth and he was chewing it, but it is not. Just goes to show how carefully you must look. As for the shadow it is probably mum or one of her friends whatever it was is not in the original capture.

    Hey Ken,
The interaction is nice and it's very good that you captured them in the clear. I do agree with Axel on the shadow....better without it but still VG.

Very nice behavioral image Ken. I kind of like the shadow as it gives the feeling the mom is not far away (especially since you can see the outline of her head on the left little guy). The foreground grasses are a bit distracting, but there's not much you can do about that. The image looks like it has a bit of a magenta cast to it, which, unless its just me, is easily corrected.

    Ken,
    Nice interaction.
    Axel,
Most of the times, the elephant calves touch the mouth of their mom with the tip of their trunk (a finger like protrusion) to smell and recognise. The scent/pheromones is analysed by their vomero nasal organ. Its also known as flehmen response.

    Cheers,

Lovely interaction Ken. High on the cute factor. :). See a magenta cast too, but no big deal.

THat has to be an elephant shadow. Never mind, looks great anyways. I don't mind the plant intersecting the left elephant.
