    Our largest gull and certainly the one with the largest bill

    1D2N 500/f4 handheld heavily overcast
    ISO 400 f8 1/2000 exp comp +1/3

    Rob:

    Your gull is sharp, and although I normally don't like merges of head and wing, I think the dark underside of the wing does show off his big bill well.

    Your exposure is pretty close. You might have been able to get by with +2/3 of EC, which would bring up the darker areas a bit. The whites have a little room, as most measured around 232 or so at the hottest.

    Shadow recovery will help some, but some noise started to creep in on the underside of the wings when using it.

    To my eye, the image has a bit of a blue cast, and you could consider warming it up just a bit to taste.

    Wonderful BIF image. I agree with Randy that the underside of the wing looks a little dark on my monitor.

    I agree with whats been said. I'd also like a little more room in front of him.
    He does have a rather big beak for a gull. Never seen one of these.
