    Yes, I know the image quality sucks. Unfortunately, all I had was a cell phone camera. I hope the story makes up for it.

    These geese are crossing Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto, not far from the airport. I first noticed one goose in the middle of the road, pacing back and forth. I stopped my car to let him cross, but he continued his pacing. After he was satisfied that all the cars had stopped, he must have given a signal of some kind, because a large of geese, many clearly juveniles, appeared on the left side of the road, and walked straight across. All the while the first goose continued his duty as traffic cop. He had gone out to make sure that it would be safe, and only when there were no moving cars did the rest of them start to cross, with the first goose finally bringing up the rear.

    Interesting, thanks for sharing the story and image. I've never seen this behavior.
