Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Shooting Date/Time 1/28/2008 and noon time with very overcast skies, light was funky, Tv(Shutter Speed) 1/3200Sec. Av(Aperture Value) F2.8, Evaluative metering, Exposure Compensation +1, ISO 200, Lens EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM, Focal Length 300.0 mm.
From Tripod, about 30 feet up on the tree line. I was 50 feet away. Cropped for a 8x10. I wanted to take the chance on this shot because it was White Morph GBH. I have never seen one. Did not know they existed.
We stopped to eat lunch on the Loop Road in the Glades. When this guy swooped down he landed right in someones lawn. We, of course, grabbed our cameras and asked permission as the owner came out of her trailer. She looked at us, like we were crazy, then looked at the Heron, and said, I quote "I guess so, he stays here all winter. He practically lives in my yard."
I could have died right there. Wish he were in my yard. I took over 50 frames. On the ground near the small pond, then up in the trees as you see here. I tried all sorts of combinations. 3 worked and this is the best I got. What do you think of it? Be honest.

I live in Florida and have yet to see one of these, so I am completely jealous. You did well with the exposure and the pose is good, but the lighting and high key bg kind of kill it for me. You may want to try lightening up the shadow area around the eye a bit.
A quick adjustment to try to make it more palatable. How about it? I know not many like the white sky. Just trying to make something out of sour lemons.
You have added a little bit of sugar to your sour lemons. The adjusted image looks better, more light around the eye seems to make the bird more prominent.
