Some make it......some don't. Cycle of life in action and this guy....who I nicknamed "Hot Tub".....because he sat in the pools directly below the falls.....was prolific. He happened to turn the fish our way this time as he walked away to eat it.....always facing slightly away from platform.
Inhindsight.....could have gone to f11 and sacrificed some speed......but focus point is the front shoulder..parallel to snout..felt that f8 was enough.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the 100-400mm hand held at ISO 800 and f8 for 1/2000 sec. Cropped from left and slightly off top (you know my love of tight crops)
Roman,
I have been enjoying your bear images. The open mouth of the fish is terrific. The bear is nicely framed by the froth. The water stream falling from the ear is nice as well. Thanks for sharing.
Exceptional Roman. The contrast of the salmon pink with the brown fur and white water grabs your attention right away. Not sure why you are concerned about the f-stop - the image looks pretty sharp throughout the important parts of the image. The higher shutter speed was the way to go.
Roman, Top image in my book. Has everything going for it from comp, sharpness, lighting and what sets it apart...drama! Love the salmon and it's rich color. Beautiful capture!
Wow!I guess that's why you go to Alaska for that shot!! Really great comp. The fish looking at the bear puts this over the top for me!!Well done!!Congrats!!
Tight crop works well here. Great looking subjects. I like the wake created by the bear breaking up the roiling rapids, gives a sense of movement to the river.
Truly spectecular! The bear is cool, but what really does it for me is the water pooring out of the salmon!! The foamy water make a nice setting. Excellent shot Roman!
I just love how it seems like the fish is staring up at the bear in a pleading gesture to let it go. tight crop not a nit in this case. lovely action captured.
I'm late to the show but what a show it is! Man, that fish stare is priceless! Love how the water/foam is so bright white - it really sets off the salmon.
