Default First Morning of My Life ~ Least Tern

    Attached Images Attached Images

My parents had nested earlier in June but a rare New England summer nothreaster washed their nest away.

They nested again in July and yet another storm set up off the coast as my time to be born into the world drew near.

Mom stayed close by, awake even in the dark as she could hear me peeping through the shell just before midnight. It was incredibly humid as I pecked my way out..... there were noises I didn't understand and I could sense the water flowing toward me and even through the sand beneath me. I hatched just before the height of the tide and crawled my way just far enough to escape the end of the wave as it washed up the fore dunes.

I'm exhausted on this, the first morning of my life!

This is just plain perfect and way too cute. I love the low angle and the sand on the beak, lovely colors.

I like the details and think this little one is precious. Looks like a ball of fuzz. Really cute. Nice low angle. The story adds alot also.

Jim, I like the words of your story, and they fit the image appropriately. Well captured.
