I really enjoy these little guys and I love their colors. These two inparticular made me think of an old married couple. Taken with the 40D, 500f4 w/1.4, iso 400 1/1000 at 7.1, AV. Photographed in Cape May in May. all suggestions greatfully accepted.
Nice pare and hard birds to find at rest. What was the light doing. Looks like it might have been to your side and providing one good HA and the other a tad dark. The focus was on the deeper bird and I noticed you gave it f/8 to get the best DoF, good thinking. You keep the shutter speed above the focal length as well (nice job).
Was this HH, could use a bit of sharpening and light adjustments on man subject, on balance well done and the colors are terrific.
Might shave a bit off the bottom to get things further off center and add some canvas to the right.

HI Carole - love the colours and the Pose on the rear bird is good especially with the open beak. AS jeff mentions the angle of the light has not helped you any here - with the foreground bird in shadow because he has not turned his head to the light - best results are from even lighting.
The OOF foreground bird bothers me a bit - dont think you would have got them both in focus no matter what - if the first bird had just put his head down that little bit - it would have separated the beak of the second bird touching the first bird head and just given it that bit more ommmph.
Hi Carole,
I see what you were trying to do...agree with the techs. and fine advise given...use this as a learning capture and go for your next one...:) looking forward to it...
Difficult caputuring two birds interacting !! Light would have been a big plus, the closer bird oof and darker makes it tough here !!! ... but cute and I like it !!!
