    Default Best compact 'wife' camera?

Can anyone recommend a compact top line camera of any brand. My current choice is a Canon Powershot G9. Do you know any better product with lovely image quality and relatively nice noise handling and longer focal length (200-400mm equivalent)?

I know you, top guys :D, don't care too much of the compact segment but maybe have some ideas.

    Thanks in advance: Szimi

I have made ongoing and very kind effort on my wife to use a DSRL body with higher flexibility of using different lenses but I failed as I am now lacking of arguments. She only need a compact but not necessarily paper-thin camera. So the phrase of 'wife' camera doesn't came from my chauvinist affection. I fully respect all the ladies, including you Fabs :o :D

But if fight, let there be fight :D :D I allow girls and ladies to yield to force. :D :D

Szimi I have to go with Renate on this one An M8 seems the perfect fit .... the you only need to add a few lenses Would start with a 35 Summilux Aspheric and throw in a Noctilux the perhaps a 90 Summicron Will work :D:D

For all the girls & ladies:

    I just need the information... :D :D
Today I hold a copy of G9 in my hand and it didn't make a feel like a pro consumer product :)
Looks however a bit better than the FZ-50 from Lumix. Comments?

From the title, I was not certain if the wife or camera was compact.:)

It i different than the Lumix I think is on of the (or the) best camera in its class Solid feel and excellent image quality

The only reason I did not order one and got a Lumix LX-2 was not starting at 28mm
