    Default Dreary Day Peanut Lover....

On a dreary overcast day I really couldn't justify going birding, So, I decided to put out some peanuts and enjoy my favorite yardbird! It was dark out (reason for ISO 1600) and this has a very dark BG , but I kinda liked the feel. 1DMKIIN 400DO 1.4xtc ISO 1600 F11@1/125

    Hey Maxis,
As I am relatively new to photgraphy game, I don't even own a flash yet!!!! My excuse is I love finding great natural light!!!! And I'm sticking to it!!!! At least until I decide to buy a flash and learn how to use it!!! As always, thanks for your help, my man!!!

It is a moody image David !!! I like it Good looking bird I think the histogram for this image has to be way to the left Would probably be an even stronger image having the bird lighter Just made it lighter

David It is a good plan More pictures are ruined by flash than anything else

One of the main uses for flash is to fill shadows in harsh light With soft warm light it can destroy the feel Need to be careful Excellent plan on your part !!! btw if you wish you could post in eager to lean gallery and will get more detail feedback

    Al,
Yes I did try lightening it some; even ran neat image so the noise wouldn't be too bad if I did, but in the end I like the dark mood!!!! It's funny, I like the lighter version as well!!!! Thanks for the help!!!!

I will disagree with Alfredo here. With such low light and all the noise introduced by having to lighten the image I think that I would at least like to have tried some flash on this one. The ORIG is really dingy...

Thanks so much for all the helpful feedback!!!! At full resolution, It still had so much beautiful detail (even the darker pupil is quite evident) I thought it would make a decent image (even if dark and moody, like the day). Dang, Artie, I tried hard to use all those sharpness techniques you taught me (in print) and now it's too dingy to save!!!! OK, next time I'll go out on a brighter day or finally get a flash (and read your section on the use of flash - of course). Truly appreciate all the help!!!!!

Cool image in some tough conditions. I really like both but think that somewhere in between them would be better. I like the dark bg of the first, lighter bird in Al repost. I think just lightening the bird some would do it for me.:D

I have to say I really like the original here... I think the dark BG and more subdued lighting on the bird adds to the feel of the image more so than the lighter version. Not your typical backyard jay image IMO.

    Very cool David!
