    Default Skimmer Chick with Prize

Very, very overcast at Nickerson this morning. Decided to push the Mark 3 to ISO 1600 and wait for a few skimmer chicks to come into the clearing. Did have to do some BG work though and run it through noise ninja. Nice to meet Lou Buonomo, Joe Senzatimore, and George DeKamp. Not many keepers.....but had a few cute tern chick ones too. I am always amazed at the Mark 3 noise capabilities.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 800mm and f8 for 1/500 sec at ISO 1600 all tripod mounted w/ wimberly head. Crop top and left to eliminate other bird.

Very nice capture, caught red handed. I'd take overcast anytime :) no contrast, no shadows ;)

    Very good techs.

    Roman:

Nice capture. Light certainly was soft. Eye contact with both bird and prey!

Your background work has spilled over onto the bird, esp. under the neck and chest.

    Hey Randy,
Tried darkening that ......no blurring/patching or cloning...soft and downy.....tried to bring it up more......so it stood out more from the BG. Will re-work. Thanks.
PS I should know better than to PP when I'm tired!

I also saw the evidence Randy mentioned, but other than that conditions well handled! I wouldn't know what to do with so many whites :)

I like the angle and captured moment. Adding to the other comments, I would give it more space and raise the color temperature a bit.

Agreed with most comments. I think you did a fabulous job managing the light and ISO. Congrats Roman. :)

Pretty darn good in my opinion. The pose is nice and the prey makes this special to me.

Making the best out of what you had to work with. This is a fine image considering the conditions. And it was nice to meet you at last. Hope to see you again soon.
