    Default Mac pro Quad Core intel xeon 2.66 ghz

    Hi I am thinking about taking the plunge and move from a windows desktop to an Apple.
    I would like to know the following;
    1. I assume the above is perfect to run CS4?
    2. Do I need to upgrade RAM? Or is the 3GB sufficient
    3. Can I connect and run dual monitors?
    4. I have a CS4 windows licence, will Adobe give me an Apple licence at minimal cost
    Or do I need to purchase a complete new CS4 copy....I hope not!
    5. Same question with regards to lightroom.
    Is there anything else I need to consider?

    Many thanks

    Hi Rene

    That will be one fine machine !!!

    Ram wise I would recommend a bit more ... at least four ... CS4 runs perfectly

    You can use dual monitors but take a look at a single 30 inch... used to have duals.

    Adobe does offer a cheaper conversion You do need to call in customer support and give them your Win license number, they are pleasant to deal with.

    Only other thing to consider are HDs Apple makes a great raid card but its pricy, I got four HDs and a raid set up but would not do it again. Would get one or two extra drives and a Drobo.

    Post or PM any questions after you get it, easy to use and will be up to speed in no time !!!

    I agree with Al, get more RAM (6GB) RAM is cheaper than dirt these days, not sure how much Apple will charge you for that though :D

    Thanks for the replies;
    I have decided to configure the mac as follows;
    2 add seagate 1 TB drives
    Add 4 gig of ram
    I have already a buffalo terra station 1gb external drive, so no need for Drobo.
    Screen; will stick with my 24 inch Samsung.

    Anything else before I pull the trigger?

    Thanks again

    At least 4GB RAM sounds good, I have that in my MacBook Pro, too. If you want more at some point you can buy it cheaper at crucial.com or similar places.

    Lightroom serial number will install on Mac or PC - just download the installation file for the OS that you need.

    I made the same plunge but did it with a custom built Hackintosh. I'm running a retail version of OS X 10.5.7 on a completely functional Intel 8500, Gigabyte motherboard (it supports quads too), 6 internal SATA drives, dual DVD burners, NVIDIA 8800GT, dual monitors supported but I prefer one. Everything works just fine without the expensive Mac hardware.

    Love my Mac Pro. You can change CS4 to Mac for less than $10. Both versions of Lightroom are included on the installation disk. Crucial memory has worked great for me, and I have 9 GB. Another vote for the Drobo.
