Wanted to crop the "splash" off the rock to the left found it a bit distracting
but would cut the tail too close.
And now that I'm half way through Artie's "The Art of Bird Photography II" Cd
I am at least at the point where I know what I don't know!!!
I'm a big fan of harlequins and know how hard it is to expose them properly. A bit negative exposure compensation helps to keep details in the whites or at least makes it possible to recover them in postprocessing. Here they look a bit hot. I might sharpen the bird more. Especially the eye looks soft on my monitor. Fill flash might have helped to get more details in the darker parts on the neck and chest.
Harleys are the most challenging ducks to photograph. Angle and splash aside, it has a lot of potential. Seems a bit soft on the wings red areas, at least to me, but still ok to me.

Reason: refined wording
Hi Larry, I would have cropped the splash a little bit since the duck looks a little centered as presented. The whites look a bit hot form my calibrated monitor, see my tutorial in Digital Workflow on how to go about and save them, if possible.
