Thought this was fitting for the hot weather most of us have enjoyed the past few months. This was shot years ago at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. I think I previously posted a similar, but quite different version of this. But as I can't find my cowboy, this will have to do.
Image is from a scan of an original work, which I did when I first got into darkroom work in my former home darkroom. It was a solarization of the ice boats, which I reverse printed multiple times, using the print as a negative to make the next generation. I had to input the rigging lines, as they were wiped out by the solarization process.
For this version, I scanned one of the original final prints and removed, painted out, all background elements. I then redid the rigging, as before, and used the poster edge, neon glow and emboss filters.
Sorry, but my one good cowboy shot disappeared from my portfolio, in the last year. Too many slides to go through, to have it scanned, if I could find it.
Mark, Don't feel so bad I'm having alittle trouble finding my inner cowboy too!!
I think that this was positioned well in the frame when the horizon was visible but I think it may look a bit better if the boat were down in the frame a little bit now that the horizon is not visible IMO. Nice graphic image.
Like your placement of the frame and your filter Mark. Since it is floating would it make sense to show some ground underneath the blades? To give it some points of reference?
Don't worry about lack of pics Sir. I have trouble myself. Though now that I see lot of horses, well, maybe I'll pull a rabbit, err horse, outta hat. :D
Love the punchy feel of your image and it is really OOTB. Well done mate. :) (is my typing accent ok?) ;)
I looked at the cropping, and decided on the olde 1/3 rule. 1/3 on top and 2/3 on the bottom and purposely eliminated all elements other than the boats. I had ice below them, in the prior image, but with the more graphic representation felt space was more appropriate. But I do understand your comments and appreciate them. Thank you.
As for Ákos, thanks and ... Make a Great Day ... Mate! :D
This is the prior generation of the image. As with the original creation of the image, it is a flip. It does not however have the filter and color added. Just for your comparison. While I used the prior print as a negative, in the darkroom, it's a lot easier creation in digital.;)
